About Us
Mr Makoro is a law graduate from the University of the North; holds an Honours Degree in Labour Relations from the Rand Afrikaans University and several diplomas and certificates in Labour Relations, Financial Management and Project Management from the Universities of Pretoria, Rand Afrikaans and Technikon RSA.
His involvement in employment relations dates back to 1983 when he was a shop steward and chief negotiator for the then Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (CCAWUSA) at 3M SA (PTY) LTD, under the leadership of the late Ms Emma Mashinini. After his legal studies, he briefly served his article of clerkship (Candidate Attorney) with George Kleynhans Attorneys in Polokwane. He joined the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMSA) in 1993 as a Local Organiser. In 1994, he joined the Hospital Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (HOSPERSA) as their Provincial Secretary in Limpopo.
On 15 April 1996, Mr Makoro joined the then Department of Water Affairs and Forestry as Deputy Director Labour Relations. On joining the Public Service his knowledge and expertise in labour relations were identified, and he was requested by the then South African Management Development Institute (SAMDI) to train senior and junior managers across the public service.
